What is Animal Chiropractic Care?
A method of health care that treats the biomechanics of joint function. Chiropractic Care corrects a misalignment of a vertebral bone and restores proper functioning of the nervous system. It is a holistic approach to many of the health and performance problems of the horse and dog. When functioning properly, the body has the ability to heal itself. Chiropractic Care assists the body in self-repair. Chiropractic DOES NOT replace traditional Veterinary Medicine and surgery, but provides an alternative method of care.

How is the Examination Conducted? The examination begins with a case history then progresses to postural analysis, gait analysis, motion palpation, static palpation, and orthopedic and/or neurological examination. During the examination I am looking for stiffness, lack of propulsion, lameness, gait abnormalities, ranges of motion, injuries, muscle atrophy and of course subluxations.

What is a Subluxation? A subluxation in simple terms is the change in proper movement of the spine. Normal flexibility is lost in the spine, which usually results in pain, resistance and poor performance.

What Causes a Subluxation? Several sources contribute to a subluxation. Poor saddle fit, repetitive training, environment, task, rider, injuries due to trauma, and confinement are a few. There are over 100 joints in both the equine and canine spine between the base of the skull and the tail. Each of these joints has a normal range of motion. When a joint can no longer move through its full range of motion, problems start occurring.
